## Joining: Adhesive, Rivets and the Rules That Govern Both

Modern recreational vehicle and commercial body construction leans heavily on structural adhesive, and for good reason: a bonded seam spreads load across its full area rather than concentrating it at fastener holes, and it seals as it bonds. Two-component urethane and epoxy panel adhesives are the workhorses. What they demand is discipline about surface preparation, open time and clamp pressure, because they are unforgiving of contamination and of being disturbed while green.

Mechanical fasteners still have their place, especially on commercial bodies and on trailer skins where an original rivet pattern is part of the appearance.
